This year is America’s 250th birthday, and to celebrate the individual cities that make the U.S. so special, The Great American Road Trip has partnered with the U.S. Department of Transportation to create a comprehensive guide to the perfect U.S. road trip. And it is expansive!
So buckle up, Atlanta! Here are the five Georgia landmarks that made the must-visit Great American Road Trip list! (In no particular order.)
1. The Georgia Aquarium

All Atlantans know that our Downtown aquarium is a national treasure. As the largest aquarium in the U.S., and the only aquarium in the U.S. to house a whale shark, we definitely have a lot to offer visitors and locals alike!
Wander through the beautiful under the sea exhibits and learn all about the creatures that call our oceans home!
2. Centennial Olympic Park

It might just seem like a nice local part to ATL residents, but Centennial Olympic Park holds a ton of history and significance to our country! It represents the 1996 Olympics, which Atlanta hosted!
Head to Centennial Olympic to check out the splash pad, tons of local art, statues and monuments, and all the surrounding local businesses! (Oh, and you can see SkyView from the park!)
3. Chattahoochee Whitewater Rafting

If you’re looking for a thrilling adventure, you’ve gotta check out Chattahoochee Whitewater Rafting, the longest urban whitewater rafting site on earth!
Between the adrenaline pumping adventure and the gorgeous natural beauty, this nature center is truly worth the trip!
4. Rock City

Speaking of natural beauty — visit Rock City, just two hours from Atlanta, for a whimsical look at nature and public art!
Rock City is known for its stunning waterfalls and natural rock formations, but also for the friendly gnomes that call Rock City Home!
5. Fort Pulaski National Monument

If you want to learn a little more about history on your trip, head to Fort Pulaski National Monument in Savannah, Georgia.
This piece of Civil War history features interactive educational exhibits, as well as a look into the past.
