It’s finally summertime, and along with scorching hot weather and tons of fun (air-conditioned) activities, that means one thing: our TikTok and Instagram feeds are filled with New York influencers heading to the Hamptons for the weekend. Even though most of us have never been within 10 miles of the place, we all know about the Surf Lodge (much to our chagrin).
And hey, while we feel a little bit of FOMO for the iconic Hamptons—not necessarily from the overcrowded bars and overpriced drinks—but for the beautiful beach town atmosphere and the peaceful escape from city life, we’ve got some good news for you!
Georgia has its very own elegant and picturesque beach destination, also full of history, beautiful architecture, amazing food and drink, and of course, pristine beaches. And the best part? It’s all of the Hamptons fun… without New York prices!
Which beach town is the Hamptons of the south?
Savannah, Georgia is the perfect romantic beach town, and we’re sure that many would agree: it’s our very own Hamptons in Georgia!
Here’s our guide to the beautiful beach town of Savannah!
Where to get food
Savannah is FULL of amazing, upscale dining options. You can find southern cooking in a very elevated style, delicious, fresh seafood, and so much more. Here are just some of our recommendations:
- Sorry Charlie’s – a classic oyster bar, and famous in the city
- Little Duck Diner – delicious brunch, and can’t-miss shrimp and grits
- Leopold’s Ice Cream – a true Savannah staple, their most famous ice cream shop (get there early, the line is usually around the block!)
Where to get a drink
- Bar Bubbly – a super cute cottage core champagne bar with delicious bubbly
- Rocks on the Roof – nice, upscale cocktails on the rooftop!
- Alley Cat Lounge – basement bar type
- Myrtle and Rose Rooftop – un upscale, floral, chic spot!
What to do
- Tybee Island – of course, you’ve gotta check out the beautiful beach while you’re in Savannah!
- The Prohibition Museum – with a hidden speakeasy inside, you can learn all about the most illicit part of the U.S.’s drinking history
- Forsyth Park – this beautiful, historic part is full of Spanish moss and greenery; it’s also where they filmed part of Forrest Gump, so check it out!
- Ghost Tours – from walking tours to tours in the back of a literal hearse, Savannah is arguably one of the most haunted cities in the U.S…. and the ghost stories they’ve got will make your skin crawl!
So check out the Hamptons of Georgia, just a short drive from the ATL!
