As we all know by now, Metro Atlanta got hit by another winter storm yesterday afternoon. Along with a layer of snow, the roads are now quite icy, and travel is not recommended.
Can I drive in Atlanta?
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, there are still large ice patches on the roads, which can make driving very hazardous. Atlanta drivers are urged not to make any non-essential trips today.
They report on X, that they’re working hard to clear the roads and get ATL back to driving-shape.
They report on their priority clearings:
Georgia DOT’s top priority is clearing the interstates. I-16, I-20, and I-520 remain passable throughout the district, however, drivers should still use extreme caution if they must travel. Crews have noticed some treacherous areas, especially on I-520 in Augusta. We continue to plow and salt bridges on interstates.
What should I do if I find an icy patch?
GDOT says, “call 511 to report icy road conditions or incidents.” This will help them clear the roads and keep everyone safe due to the conditions.
