A night-time lantern wonderland has opened at Atlanta Zoo. IllumiNights is the zoo’s breathtaking new addition to Atlanta’s traditions. Stroll through the beloved attraction, as more than 80 animal lanterns – some up to 20 feet tall – transform the zoo into a feast for the eyes.
Presented by Georgia Power, this captivating collection of lanterns depict some of Earth’s most charismatic creatures, each lantern is hand-painted by Chinese artisans. The pieces represent thousands of hours of work, and truly need to be seen, to be believed!
This incredible festive tradition kicked off last year at our city’s beloved zoo, with vistas of illuminated wildlife and awe-inspiring sights. Now, our newest tradition is keeping the ball rolling, with brand new lanterns, scenes, and surprises. In keeping with Zoo Atlanta’s commitment to sustainability, each lantern also features environmentally-friendly LED lights.
It takes about an hour to explore the entire route at IllumiNights. Come face-to-face with modern masterpieces, each depicting a particular species of animal, using this ancient and enchanting art form.
Most animals go indoors before dark, so they will not be in their habitats during IllumiNights. Visit the lanterns’ real-life counterparts during the day. Select gift shops and food and beverage locations will be open throughout the Zoo for purchase of festival-inspired items.
IllumiNights: A Chinese Lantern Festival is a separate, ticketed event. Daytime Zoo admission does not provide entry to the festival. General admission ranges from $20.99-$24.99 for adults, and $17.99-19.99 for kids. The event is from Nov. 22, running through the holidays until Jan. 15. Click here for more information and tickets. You can find Atlanta Zoo at 800 Cherokee Ave SE, 30315.
