The votes are in Atlanta, and after a neck-and-neck race to see who would become the governor of Georgia, succeeding Brian Kemp, Keisha Lance Bottoms has won the election.
This is an historic event for Georgia and the country, because Bottoms is the first-ever woman to be elected to the office of governor in the state of Georgia, the first-ever Black governor and she will be the first Black woman governor in U.S. history.
To top off her list of firsts, Bottoms is also the first democrat to win the Georgia’s governor office since 1998.
Bottoms is the former Mayor of Atlanta. She won against her republican opponent, Rick Jackson.
