You’ve heard of a ball drop at midnight on December 31st, but what about a… Possum Drop? That’s right! Tallapoosa, Georgia is famous for their annual Possum Drop, a tradition that dates back decades!
And don’t worry–it’s NOT A LIVE POSSUM! No possums are hurt or have ever been hurt for or during the Possum Drop!
According to the Possum Drop’s website,
The possum used in the NYE Celebration is a Taxidermied Possum named “Spencer” after Ralph L Spencer. The possum was found deceased in a roadway by local Taxidermist Bud Jones many years before the event began in the mid 1990’s.
