It’s no news… it’s unusually warm in Atlanta right now. With people still out and about in tank tops and shorts in mid-November, it’s unexpectedly warm in the city. But is it record-breakingly hot? Well, it just might be. And this is even bigger news after Atlanta’s cold snap last week, with temperatures in the low 20s, and even SNOW FLURRIES in some parts of the city. Keep scrolling to learn all about this bizarre fall weather… and the records it might be shattering!
Why’s it so hot outside?

Well, we actually aren’t super surprised. Weather models across the southeast predicted a milder, warmer-than-average fall from the start.
So if you’re sweating in your sweater… it’s actually not that unexpected. BUT that doesn’t mean that it’s normal. In fact, there are a few temperature records that we might break this week, according to the AJC. They are:
- 80 degrees on Wednesday, set in 1942.
- 79 degrees on Thursday, set in 1979.
- 77 degrees on Friday, set in 2011.
The AJC also reports that the best chance for a record-high temperature is tomorrow, Thursday, November 20th. The record is 79 degrees for that day, which was set in 1979 (and is the highest temperature since record keeping began in 1878. Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan predicts a high of 80 degrees, which would, of course, break that record.
What’s the normal weather like for this time of year in Atlanta?

According to the AJC, the average peak temperature for this time of year in the A is 63 degrees. Obviously, 80 degrees is WAY above average!
Is it going to stay warm like this?
Whether this is good or bad news to you, the answer is: it might, for a while at least.
Beginning Friday night, Atlanta can expect a short cold front with showers and isolated thunderstorms… and then temperatures right back up in the 70s for the weekend.
So if you love the warm weather, live it up, Atlanta! And if you’re craving the cold… hang in there!
