Last February, ATL officials banned turning right on red in two Atlanta neighborhoods. Now, the deadline for the ban to be in place in all impacted streets is quickly approaching. Keep scrolling for the whole story.
Where is the ‘no right on red’ traffic going to go into effect?

Currently, the ‘no right on red’ ordinance will be going into effect in:
- Downtown
- Midtown
- Castleberry Hill
All of which have high pedestrian traffic and are fairly walkable parts of the city! The final deadline for the ban to be in place, with the correct signage on all impacted streets, is quickly approaching.
When is the deadline to have all the ‘no right on red’ signage up on impacted streets?
The deadline is the end of 2025, December 31st.
However, according to a report by 11Alive,
The sign rollout, though, is moving slower than the council directed in the ordinance passed nearly two years ago. City Councilman Jason Dozier said Atlanta Department of Transportation will not meet the Dec. 31 deadline in the council’s ordinance to have all the signs up.
What are the arguments for and against ‘no right on red’?

For those in favor of the ‘no right on red ordinance,’ many say that the laws will protect pedestrians while crossing the street. Because everyone must stop at the red lights, pedestrians don’t have to worry that a car is about to turn unexpectedly.
And for those against the ‘no right on red’ ordinance, some are worried that it will slow down traffic and cause back-ups.
Who will enforce the ‘no right on red’ traffic laws?
According to 11 Alive, “Atlanta Police officers are responsible for enforcement.”
