This week, the news has been focused on one thing: snow in Atlanta! And now we’re wondering (hoping, really!), is it going to snow in Atlanta? Let’s take a look!
Winter Storm Watch
The National Weather Service has announced a winter storm watch for the Atlanta area from Friday, January 11th at 7am to Saturday, January 12th, at 7am.
This means Atlantans should expect very cold weather and wintery precipitation: sleet, freezing rain, and yes, even snow.
Will it snow in Atlanta?
Of course, weather is changeable, and we can’t know for certain this early… but it’s starting to really look like: YES!
Some reports have the areas north of I-20 in Atlanta getting between 2 and 3 inches of snow. And the further north you go, the higher the chance it’ll stick!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports,
North Georgia is projected to get at least four inches of snow Friday… In higher elevations, where below-freezing temperatures will linger, the snowfall could reach or exceed six inches
When is it going to snow?
It’s hard to say exactly when the snow is coming… but it looks like it’ll begin sometime on Friday morning.
The AJC says,
The timing of the snow’s arrival is still fluctuating. [Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan] said flurries should start Friday morning and snowfall is expected to intensify as the day wears on. Highs then are expected to stay around 34 degrees, about 6 to 10 degrees lower than Wednesday’s and Thursday’s predicted high temps.
What should I do?
As we all know, Atlantans don’t always exactly know how to prepare for snow. Basically, we’re recommending everyone stay inside (and stay warm!) as much as possible.
Hazardous conditions on the road, like ice patches, could persist all weekend, and cause more accidents than normal.
So stay in this weekend, bundle up, and enjoy a nice warm beverage!
