If you love the Atlanta Beltline, then we’ve got some great news for you! The newest section of the soon-to-be 22-mile loop around the city is opening this June, at the end of next week. Keep scrolling to learn more.
According to a new report by 11Alive,
The newest segment of the Atlanta Beltline will open on June 12, just in time for the World Cup, completing the connection between the Eastside and Westside trails.
Where is the new section of the Beltline?
You’ll be able to see the new improvements to the Beltline on the Southside Trail, between Grant Park and Pittsburgh Yards.
The other section of the trail between Glenwood Park and Grant Park opened in mid April of this year.
When will the Beltline be completed?
There are still some unfinished sections of the north end of the Beltline, but the Atlanta Beltline hopes to have the full 22-mile loop around Atlanta completed by 2030. (Does that sound far away? It’s not!)
11Alive reports that the most difficult section that remains for the project is “the 2.3-mile segment three of the Northeast Trail from Buford Highway to the MARTA Lindbergh station. The project will involve crossings of existing railways, highways, and Peachtree Creek.”
But for now, we’re enjoying the newest section of the Beltline that just opened in April, and we can’t wait to check out the section that’s opening on June 12th!
Can I get on the new Beltline section year?
No. Do not attempt to sneak onto the unopened path. Police cars are there to ensure no one gets on the path before it opens.
If you need a detour, use residential streets that connect between Boulevard and Pittsburgh Yards until the newest section is open this June!
