We all know that Atlanta is a city teeming with talent, creativity and art. This weekend, we’re adding another incredible venue to the list of places in the city where you can see art!
On April 13th, The Warehouse is opening to the public for the first time ever in Atlanta’s growing Westside!
What is The Warehouse?
Once an old furniture warehouse, The Warehouse is now a gorgeous contemporary art space that showcased the works of legendary Atlanta home builder John Wieland and his late wife Sue. The collection lends itself greatly to Wieland’s work as a home-builder, as all of the over 400 works by 250 national and international artists relate to the overarching themes of house and home. This unique collection features works by prominent artists like Cindy Sherman, Roy Lichtenstein and Howard Finster, among others.
The works at The Warehouse encompass nearly all forms of media! Some media include painting, photography, works on paper, sculpture, installation art, ceramics, textile art, and video/film. You’ll definitely feel right at home among all the different forms of beautiful art!
The history of The Warehouse
According to a press release from The Warehouse, “The Wielands started collecting art in the 1980s. John, founder and former chairman of John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods, was searching for pieces for his first headquarters in College Park. As his home building business grew to include more than 30,000 homes built across the southeast, so did the art collection.”
John Wieland says, “The Warehouse is an approachable and unusual way to experience art as all works are centered around the theme of house and home. We are pleased to open our doors to the public and invite the community to experience the joy, familiarity and curiosity found within the collection.”
