It’s 2024, and that means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions. While your goals for the new year might include everything from fitness goals to hobby-endeavors, one thing is true for everyone: we’re always looking to improve.
YouGov, a dedicated survey app, found that “Improving physical health” and “Exercising more” are in the top 3 most common New Year’s resolutions (along with “saving more money”).
So what does it mean that Atlanta ranks among the best cities in the U.S. for an active lifestyle?
First of all, this is GREAT news!
Atlanta ranked 10th out of 100 major cities in the United States for our active lifestyle. To find out which cities were the most likely to be able to enjoy a life of exercise and movement, WalletHub, “compared the 100 biggest U.S. cities based on 35 key indicators of an active lifestyle. [The] data set ranges from the average monthly fitness-club fee to the city’s bike score to the share of physically inactive adults.”
This means that not only do adults in Atlanta actively choose to exercise and engage in physical activities that benefit our health, we also have access to things that make these choices easier.
Atlanta has tons of gyms, sports clubs/courts/fields, exercise classes, and places within the city that are walkable (usually per neighborhood. No one is saying you could walk across Atlanta easily). And these things come at a relatively affordable cost, compared to the average individual’s income.
In fact, Atlanta actually ranks 2nd in participation and budget, coming in just behind Las Vegas in both categories. That means we’ve got some of the best, most affordable access to exercise in the whole country.
