According to a new alert from the National Weather Service for Peachtree City/Atlanta, a large portion of Metro Atlanta, including the City of Atlanta, is under a tornado watch. Keep scrolling for all the details.
Where exactly is the tornado watch?
You can see on the map above exactly which areas are under a tornado watch through tonight. While western Georgia is the most at-risk, many portions of north and central Georgia, including Atlanta, are also under the tornado watch.
The National Weather Service states,
The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur, moving into Georgia, is bringing a risk for strong to severe storms with damaging wind gusts and brief tornadoes.
When is the tornado watch in effect?
The tornado watch is in effect in the affected areas from now until 11pm, today, June 18th, 2026.
What’s the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning?
A tornado WATCH, which is what Atlanta is under, means that the conditions could lead to a tornado. The best thing to do is to watch the news and make sure you are prepared, in case a tornado develops.
A tornado WARNING, means that a tornado has been spotted, and people in the area should seek refuge in a safe location. Atlanta is currently NOT under a tornado warning, as of 6pm on June 18th, 2026.

Make sure you are prepared for the storms, flooding possibilities, and of course, the possibility of a tornado.
