Film buffs assemble for this throwback store in Poncey-Highland
If you miss Blockbuster or your former video rental store, then head to Poncey-Highland for the ultimate throwback to those simpler times. Videodrome is an East Atlanta gem, that has surprisingly remained open throughout the blow-up of streaming services. And we’d like to keep it that way.
Named after the cult classic film, Videodrome, by David Cronenberg, this video rental store has embraced the cult phenomenon. Which is clearly represented as soon as you walk into this charming store.
There’s so many spectacular movies available, from Hollywood blockbusters to indie masterpieces, fabulous foreign finds to beloved family favorites. There’s even entire sections dedicated to individual countries, or historical genres in both the movie world, and real life! Make sure to check out all of the movie paraphernalia, posters, figures, and more, scattered across the store.
The best thing about the store is membership is free! Just bring some I.D. and a debit or credit card to sign up. New releases on Blu-Ray or DVD cost $5 for a three day rental. Everything else is the same price, but you get to keep the movie for an entire week.
What are you waiting for, Atlanta? Especially if you’re a movie buff! Head to Videodrome today to sign up for this old school concept, still very much alive in the ATL.
You can find Videodrome at 617 N Highland Ave. The store is open 12pm-10pm every day. Visit their website, here!
