Spooky season is just around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited for all the fun, wacky and hair-raising fun headed to the ATL.
From fun haunted houses to cool Halloween parades–there are so many fun and spooky things to enjoy, and this year, Atlantans can get excited for Where the Weird Things Are: an upside down parade! Keep scrolling for all the details.
What is ‘Where the Weird Things Are’ upside down parade?
‘Where the Weird Things Are’ is an annual upside down parade hosted by Chantelle Rytter and the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, where participants and attendees get to let their imaginations run wild!
Don your best ‘weird thing’ puppet or costume, pack a picnic and some tiny trading trinkets, and enjoy the wonderful live music from Atlanta’s Black Sheep Ensemble.
Chantelle Rytter said in a statement,
We long for local lore, tales of mystical creatures from here. Georgia leans its back against Appalachia and soaks its feet in the coastal south. This is where the weird things are. Turning the Weird Things’ parade upside down is a way to slow down and spend a bit more time delighting one another. The creatures are stationary and the visitors strolling.
What can guests expect at the parade?
Other than a whole lot of wonderful weird things… there are so many fun happenings at the upside down parade!
First of all, you can expect tons of cool puppets and ‘weird things’ to interact with, take photos of, and watch. Attendees will also get to enjoy the music of Black Sheep Ensemble, enjoy picnics in the grass, and tiny gifting!
Tiny Gifting
One of the cool ways to participate in the event is by bringing little trinkets and gifts to give out!
The parade states,
Candy is a fine tiny gift, but also think up stuff you can’t get at the store: An acorn with a monster face on it drawn by you, a snippet of your critter’s story, your monster’s calling card, a joke, a secret handshake. For example, Kudzulu gave away seeds.
Where the Weird Things Are workshops
You can create the weird thing of your dreams to wear or bring to the parade at one of Chantelle Rytter’s workshops!
Each workshop runs on a pay-what-you-can basis, between $5-$25 with your PROMISE to be in the Upside Down Parade and give it your best! No one turned away: if $5 is too much, email chantellerytter@gmail.com.
