The Old Farmers’ Almanac, which has been predicting the weather for more than 200 years, just announced their predictions for winter weather in the U.S. Keep scrolling to check out what we’re expecting here in the Southeast, and Atlanta particularly!
What can Atlantans expect for winter weather this year (2025-2026)?
Thankfully, we’re not expecting a too awfully cold winter. The Almanac predicts the coldest temperatures of the season in the Northern Plains to New England area.
The Southeast, on the other hand, will have an averagely cold winter with wet periods throughout the season.
Does that mean it will snow this winter?

The Almanac reports that northern portions of the region, particularly in the Appalachian mountains, may see occasional snow events. It is unlikely that we’ll see snow in Atlanta… but nothing is impossible! Remember, last winter we had tons of snow unexpectedly during Snowpocalypse 2025!
How does the Farmers’ Almanac predict the weather?

You might be wondering… how would they possibly know this early what the weather will be like months from now. The Almanac says,
These forecasts are created using a tried-and-true formula that adapts to the mysteries of nature and the ever-changing world in which we live. The basis of our prediction method was developed by our founding editor according to correlations between celestial events, and various meteorological conditions… Today this formula uses the original rules set forth back in 1818, but also accounts for fluctuations in the environment on Earth, as well as solar activity (sunspots), the motion of the Moon, and other proprietary factors.
And as we’ve seen in the past, this prediction tends to be pretty accurate! All we’re saying is… make sure you have some sweaters and rain boots ready for the winter this year, Atlanta!
