We’re in for a very, very cold week in Atlanta. The winter weather has definitely hit, and hit hard. At some points throughout the week the wind chill will have temperatures feeling like they’re in the single digits.
In fact, The Weather Channel has placed Atlanta under a Winter Weather Advisory from now until noon EST today. And the Wind Chill Advisory will remain in effect from 5pm today until 10am Wednesday.
The Weather Chanel reports, “freezing rain may mix with rain at times. A light glaze of ice is possible, especially on elevated surfaces. For the Wind Chill Advisory, very cold wind chills expected. Wind chills as low as zero.”
The actual temperatures in Atlanta today are at or below freezing all day. Tonight the temperature will dip down to 13 degrees.
And even though it’s in the low 30s outside now, it actually feels like 19 degrees.
Why is this an issue for Atlantans?
The Weather Channel says, “Very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken.”
Take precautions to prepare for this winter weather. That means “slow down and use caution while traveling. Prepare for possible power outages. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.”
