Right now Atlanta is trapped in a will it / won’t it cycle of snow and wintry weather. Last weekend Atlanta prepped for the massive winter storm that hit the whole east coast… but largely missed the ATL. The storm brought ice and freezing rain, and caused a lot of power outages across the southeast, North Georgia suffering more than the rest of the state.
But if you were hoping the winter weather was over for the year… we’ve got some bad news for you. This weekend could bring even more winter weather: but this time, snow, not ice! Keep scrolling to see what we know so far.
According to the National Weather Service for Atlanta,
Snow is possible in Georgia this weekend. Accumulations and travel impacts are most likely in eastern Georgia, but confidence is increasing that the Metro or western Georgia could get some snow.

Let us break it down for you:
- Friday
- Friday’s high is predicted to be around 45, with a calm wind
- Friday’s low will come in the evening/night with a predicted low around 25, A slight chance of rain before 1am, then a slight chance of snow
- Saturday
- Saturday’s high is only 29 degrees, and the NWS predicts a 20% chance of snow showers before 1pm
- Saturday’s low will be only 15 degrees… maybe the snow will stick!
- Sunday
- Sunday’s high will near 33, with a low around 21
And with wind chills, expected to be even colder this weekend.

Regardless of if there is actual snow or not, one thing is for certain: Atlanta will be VERY cold this weekend, so make sure you’re bundled up and safe in the winter temperatures.
Of course, early weather models are still subject to change, but if you’re hoping for snow in the ATL, this might be just the event you’ve been waiting for! Hoping for a safe snow day, Atlanta!
