A new report by ConsumerAffairs identifies the U.S. cities with the worst traffic, and, unsurprisingly, Atlanta is in the top 10, ranking in at #8. Keep scrolling for all the details… not that you didn’t already know this!
How bad is traffic in Atlanta?

Try to drive anywhere, and you’ll see. It’s bad. Atlanta is a thriving city with tons of fun, cool, and cultural offerings. But when it comes to traffic, we’ve definitely got some of the worst in the country… and now it’s official.
Atlanta ranks at #8 for the worst traffic in the U.S., just after Miami. LA comes in at #1, but ATL’s daily average commute time is actually about a minute longer than LA’s, at 31.2 minutes.
Good news, though. Atlanta ranked in at #5 in the same study for 2025, so we’ve actually dropped in the ranking, thankfully. You can read the full study, as well as see the stats from 2024 and 2025 on ConsumerAffair’s website, here.
How did ConsumerAffairs come up with this data?

ConsumerAffairs states,
To find out which metros have the worst traffic, the ConsumerAffairs Research Team analyzed data including average commute times, daily hours of congestion and fatal car crash rates in the nation’s 50 most populous metropolitan areas. Read on to find out how your metro compares.
Their data also included:
- average driving time to work (45 points)
- hours of congestion (45 points)
- fatal car crashes per 100,000 people (10 points)
Atlanta’s score was a 68.01/100.
Stay safe out there, Atlanta! And remember, always leave early since traffic is going to be bad, more often than not!
