It might seem a little hard to believe, but Georgia has just ranked as the 2nd best state for road quality in the U.S.
Hold up. How?
Data analyzed by professionals from the last decade indicates that Georgia actually has some of the best, smoothest in the country. According to a study conducted by experts at personal injury attorneys Munley Law, “Georgia ranks second [in the nation] with 94.50% acceptable roads.”
How did they conduct this research?
The experts at Munley Law “analyzed Bureau of Transportation Statistics data on the acceptable road miles in each U.S. state from 2011 to 2020.” From there, they calculated the average rate of acceptable road quality to make a list rank ordering each state.
In their research, Munley Law also noted that “Georgia‘s 50-mile The Russell-Brasstown route was awarded National Scenic Byway Designation in June 2000.” Not bad, Georgia!
So, who’s got the best roads?
The best roads in the country belong to Idaho, which scored 94.78% , just 0.12% better than Georgia roads.
What exactly does this mean?
The experts at Munley broke it down for us: “Road quality can vary significantly from state to state. Some of the best roads in terms of quality can be found in states like Idaho, Georgia, and Tennessee, where well-maintained highways and interstates offer smooth driving experiences and minimal congestion…”
Of course, this isn’t true for every single area of Georgia, since we know first hand how bad traffic can get in the city. Other things that affect a state’s road can be outside of anyone’s control. For example: bad weather, which Georgia doesn’t have much of. (Infrequent freezing, earthquakes, things like that.)
So… believe it or not, we’ve actually got some of the best roads in the country! The second best, after all!
