Celebrate radical and independent voices at the South’s oldest feminist bookstore.
Not even a pandemic could stop this incredible feminist bookstore in Atlanta. Charis Books and More specialize in diverse and unique books on feminism, tackling issues faced by women on the daily.
There are children’s books, feminist, and cultural studies books, books on anti-racism, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer fiction/non-fiction.
It’s the perfect place to stock up on reading material, and the staff have excellent recommendations for you to get stuck into.
For over 44 years, Charis were once telling stories and elevating voices on their iconic corner of Little Five Points in Atlanta, Georgia. Nowadays, the store is located in Decatur, but throughout its history, this feminist bookstore has remained a gift to the ATL, quite literally as it’s called “Charis,” which is a Greek word that means grace, gift, thankfulness.
The bookstore hosts several events relevant to present goings on, both on a local, national and global basis. It’s a safe space for so many people, as their ongoing events like Trans and Friends, as well as Black Feminist Book Club, encourage important conversations and exchange of experience.
They even have their own non-profit Charis Circle, fostering sustainable feminist communities, works for social justice, and encourages the expression of diverse and marginalized voices.
