Present-day Atlanta doesn’t have too much in common with Ancient Egypt—the closest we’ve got is that the Bank of America Plaza sort of looks like an Egyptian obelisk if you squint your eyes. But now you can actually walk through Egypt circa 26th century BC right here in Atlanta with Horizon of Khufu, open now at 550 Somerset Terrace NE.
Horizon of Khufu is a collaboration with Peter Der Manuelian, a renowned Egyptologist and professor at Harvard University. Because of this, the experience goes to great lengths to ensure the historical accuracy of the regions and time period it depicts
This VR expedition may be bringing Egypt to Atlanta, but you actually get more access to some areas than you would if you traveled all the way to present-day Egypt! That’s because the experts who have created the virtual experience can take you into the heart of the pyramids, the Queen’s Chamber, and other areas that are inaccessible to the public IRL.
A “VR experience” can mean quite a few different things, so what can you expect from this one? Once you put on the headset, there’s over 10,000 square feet of space to roam and explore as you learn about what life was like so long ago
Whether you’re looking for an educational experience or an immersive escape, Horizon of Khufu has something for everyone. The experience is open now at 550 Somerset Terrace NE. So grab your tickets, put on your best pith helmet, and prepare to travel back in time
