Picture it: it’s the 90s in Atlanta and you’re at Freaknik living your best life. Making questionable choices, but hey YOLO and iPhones aren’t even a thing yet. Well…SURPRISE! Documentaries and docuseries are now such a hot thing to do in media and now they wanna talk about the party of all parties! Freaknik in Atlanta. This party was so juicy, salacious, and filled with the good, bad, and ugly that they said we need to run this back.
Well, Hulu is running it back baby and it has some folks quaking in their boots. Those YOLO moments may actually be coming back for a double-take. Freaknik was a cultural phenomenon that swept all of Atlanta. Some of your fav rappers were known for making an appearance. Known as one of the wildest parties in Atlanta, Freaknik heavily influenced life down south during the 90s.
Freaknik was the kind of party you hear stories about and think “For real?” But yes! It’s for real and some people are not ok. This was a party you hoped everyone would forget and never bring up again but as fate would have it, Hulu said let’s talk about it. Unfortunately, as Freakniks popularity grew so did some of the disturbing behavior including sexual violence against women. What started off as a good time turned into something less fun and more dangerous. Due to those concerns, Atlanta officials felt the pressure to cancel Freaknik, and so ended an era.
If you want to get the real tea like the rest of us, you’ll have to tune in to the Hulu docuseries set to come out later this year.
