2024 is ending with some sad news for the country and the state of Georgia. Former President Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a Georgia native, passed away yesterday, Sunday, December 29th, 2024 around 3:45pm.

Details for Jimmy Carter’s funeral
According to a new report from the Atlanta Patch,
The former president’s casket will travel from his hometown to Atlanta the first week of January via a motorcade, where he will first lie in repose at the Carter Center. After a few days, the former president will be flown to Washington, D.C., to continue the state funeral.
Carter’s body will lie in repose at the Carter Center for 2 days before being transported to D.C. for the state funeral. The state funeral will be held on January 9th, at the National Cathedral.

Georgia governor, Brian Kemp, also declared a state of emergency in Sumter County to assist with the farewell and motorcade/movement of the former president.
President Joe Biden has also declared the 9th, which is the day of Carter’s funeral, a National Day of Mourning in honor of Carter’s memory.
All flags at federal buildings will fly at half-mast for 30 days after Carter’s death. This will conclude on January 28th, 2025.
