Last week, MARTA announced that the most technologically advanced trains in the nation would hit the tracks for a first ride in Atlanta on June 4th. But now? They’re postponing the date. Keep scrolling to learn more.
Why is MARTA postponing the rollout of the new CQ400 trains?

MARTA’s team said in a statement,
MARTA has postponed the CQ400 First Ride event scheduled for June 4. While testing of the new CQ400 railcars continues to progress, the trains will not be ready to enter revenue service by the planned event date. The safety of our employees and riders is always our priority. We are committed to ensuring all testing and safety certifications are complete before the railcars begin serving riders.
This news comes just a week after the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that, “MARTA’s new trains have not yet passed critical safety tests.”
Of course, MARTA hoped to launch these new railcars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Atlanta, which begins in less than 2 weeks in the city.
What happens next?

MARTA did not comment on next steps, but as we know more about what’s going on, we’ll be sure to let you know!
Keep up with MARTA on social media for updates, and check back in with us about the new trains.
