We just had the pleasure of witnessing the first full moon of the new year just the other weekend and now we are in for another treat! This one is an actual comet. For the first time in thousands of years we will get to see the comet known as C/2022 E3. Known for its bright green nucleus it will be easy to spot shooting across the sky!
While the makeup of a comet may be less than glamorous it makes for a beautiful sight when hurling through the skies. This newly discovered comet is set to reach its peak today but we get a second chance three weeks from now to view it again on February 1. The glow may be visible to the naked eye, but binoculars and telescopes are encouraged.
Like most comets it will be easier to see in darker skies. The Northern Hemisphere will get to see this shining light before it finally comes down to the Southern Hemisphere. The view will continue to get better and better the closer it gets to our planet. The greenish dust tail will be easily seen on the first day of February. Mark your calendars and make sure you keep an eye out for this once in a life time sighting.
