According to a new report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta is a contender for the extremely popular film festival’s next host location.
The news that Atlanta was in the running to host Sundance was “confirmed Wednesday by longtime media executive Pat Mitchell at a luncheon held by the Entertainment Tourism Alliance of Georgia and Georgia Entertainment. Mitchell is a long-serving board member of the Sundance Institute, the nonprofit arm of the festival,” according to the AJC.
Of course, Atlanta would be a wonderful location for more film traffic and such a legendary film festival, because of our film affiliation! Known as the Hollywood of the South, tons of incredible films, TV shows, and shorts shoot in Atlanta.
What is Sundance?
Sundance is an independent film festival that has been hosted in Park City, Utah every January since it began in 1978. The indie film fest is extremely well-respected and celebrated, and showcases films from both the U.S. and the world. Tons of recognizable titles have passed through Sundance: from 500 Days of Summer to Reservoir Dogs, to Heathers. More than 100,000 people attend annually.
As Atlanta’s film industry only grows, we can expect more world-renowned film events to come to the city, and of course, come from the city too! Our annual Atlanta Film Festival is already a huge hit, drawing people from all over the country to the ATL!
