Calling all Trader Joe’s lovers! There’s some big news brewing following the closing of the Atlantic Station Publix on December 27th, 2025. Locals are calling for Trader Joe’s to take over the space, opening up a grocery store in the soon-to-be vacant lot.
The petition, which is on Change.org, has, according to locals, caught the attention of Trader Joe’s. The petition says, “Trader Joe’s corporate has confirmed they are now ACTIVELY considering our neighborhood.”
*Update: We reached out to Trader Joe’s directly, and they responded, “We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year. At this time, we do not have a location confirmed in Atlantic Station.”
Why should Trader Joe’s come to Atlantic Station?

The petition states that Atlantic Station, which has, up until recently had a Publix in a walkable distance, is in desperate need of a Trader Joe’s. They state:
Our community is facing the immediate threat of losing access to fresh, affordable groceries. Families, seniors, and individuals without reliable transportation will be disproportionately impacted. The economic and social fabric of Atlantic Station depends on having a grocery anchor that serves everyone.
So, sure. Atlantic Station needs a grocery store. But why Trader Joe’s specifically?

Atlantic Station locals state in their peititon:
Trader Joe’s is the perfect fit: a beloved, community-oriented store famous for high quality, affordable prices, and unique products. Its presence would not just fill a void; it would become a pillar of the community.
And of course, Atlantans are always obsessed with Trader Joe’s delicious options, fresh, affordable food, and clean, community-oriented vibes. An Atlantic Station location would be wonderful for locals and visitors alike.
