Set in dystopian future America, A24’s ‘Civil War’ follows a team of military-embedded journalists as they race across the war-torn United States to reach D.C. before the rebels do. Interested? Well, you’ll be even more interested to know that most of this instant Hollywood hit… wasn’t filmed in Hollywood at all!
A24’s ‘Civil War’
A24 actually filmed much of ‘Civil War’ right here in the studios of Atlanta! While mostly shot in-studio, the film took advantage of Atlanta’s burgeoning film industries, tax incentives, and access to incredible filming resources. Some of the state-of-the-art filming resources include tons of studio facilities and soundstages. In fact, according to TheCinemaholic, “The entire third act of the film, which involved the invasion of Washington, D.C., was actually shot at Tyler Perry Studios.”
Why Tyler Perry Studios? Well, along with the iconic name Perry has brought to the ATL, Tyler Perry Studios also has a unique advantage: an entire replica of the White House, complete with an interior of the Oval Office.
TheCinemaholic also reports that “The film also includes shots of the Alonzo Herndon Stadium… and the Big Bethel AME Church, located at 220 Auburn Avenue Northeast.”
Shooting in Hampton, GA
Along with Atlanta, the film also shot in Hampton, GA, about an hour from the city of Atlanta. This provided the more rural, small-town locations for the film, while still being convenient to the film industry of Atlanta.
The film also utilized shooting locations in Philly and London, along with skyline shots of NYC’s iconic skyline and exteriors of D.C.
