If you’ve been in Atlanta for any time at all, you’ve heard our proudest fact. Not only do we have the official ‘best airport in North America,’ we have the ‘busiest airport in the entire world.’ And as the stats are in for 2023–it’s official. The Atlanta Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson International, is the busiest airport in the world, according to Airports Council International (ACI).
How busy is the Atlanta airport?
Really, what does it mean to be the busiest airport in the world? According to Business Insider, in 2023 alone, 104.7 million passengers passed through the Atlanta airport. That’s an 11.7% increase in passengers from just last year. (When we were ALSO the #1 busiest airport in the world!)
With this incredibly high number of passengers passing through the ATL airport every year, Atlanta’s airport is busier than the Dubai International Airport by 17.7 million passengers. And that’s after Dubai’s airport saw an increase of about 31.7% more passengers than the previous year. That’s… to say the least… a lot of people.
About the Atlanta Airport
According to Hartsfiled-Jackson’s website, “[the airport] is the economic jewel of Georgia, generating a $34.8 billion economic impact for metro Atlanta and providing more than 63,000 jobs on-site, making it the state’s largest employer.”
Even with an incredibly busy daily schedule, the Atlanta airport still manages to run quickly and efficiently. Of course, ATL is also home to Delta Airlines, one of the most recognizable airline names in the U.S., and definitely in the Southeast.
We’re so proud to have the busiest airport in the entire world, right here at home in Atlanta! And we’re grateful for it every time we have to use a different airport instead of our own! (Kidding, of course!)
