As the seasons change from summer to fall, and the air starts to cool down, it’s the perfect time for Atlantans to take a walk on a beautiful nature trail, or a hike through Georgia’s natural majesty.
While Atlanta is loaded with lovely hikes to take with your friends, Atlanta’s creepiest trail is perfect for the spooky season: Doll Head’s Trail.
What is Doll Head’s Trail?
Doll’s Head Trail is part art project, part conservation project and all creepy. The trail cuts through an old abandoned brickyard from the 1800s that had laid empty and deteriorating until the trail came. The trail is also a part of Constitution Lakes Park, which is a distinctly urban nature preserve.
Doll’s Head Trail began when a local carpenter, Joel Slaton, decided that an elaborate art project was the perfect solution for the abandoned worksite. The project started by using the litter and pieces of, you guessed it, doll heads, to decorate the nature walk. Since then, the community has added in pieces that they find, mostly doll parts, for a win-win situation: the earth gets cleaned up and the forest gets a cool trail!
The only stipulation, of course, is that all the art on the trail has to be ‘found’ and recycled. There’s plenty of plastic and litter in the water, unfortunately, so this project has been amazing in cleaning the area up.
What are the trail details?
The hike is about 1.6 miles, round trip, and is very easy to do.
Address:
The trail starts after the boardwalk, so don’t think you’re in the wrong spot when you don’t see heads right away!
What is the trail like now?
Now, Doll’s Head Trail is a fun and lightly creepy trail that’s perfect for you to take with your friends this fall! You can stop and read all of the signs that encourage hikers and wanderers to do good by the earth and themselves. And of course, the doll heads stuffed into tree trunks can be pretty fun if you’re looking for an unnerving spook!
Don’t forget your camera, you’ll definitely want photos of all the dolls!
