Everyone knows Atlanta is home to some of the best eats in the country (I mean, check out our round up of the best restaurants in Atlanta!), but when you think Atlanta, you probably don’t immediately think bagel.
One bagel shop is changing that, though, one delicious schmear at a time!
Deanna Halcrow started learning to make bagels because she was, as she says, “looking for something to do,” and Jackie Halcrow’s teenage dream was to open a bakery of her own. Together, they decided to open up Emerald City Bagels, to fulfill them both. And we’re so lucky they did!
After its conception, Emerald City quickly became a staple of the Atlanta food scene. Emerald City has come a long way, from a humble beginning, spreading the word about their new business idea by bringing samples of their delicious bagels to Piedmont Park’s Green Market and even a roadside stand in Cabbagetown, all the way to a brick-and-mortar shop in EAV!
In 2018, the physical building opened up in East Atlanta Village, with décor reminiscent of their favorite bagel shops in lower Manhattan. They decided to go with a simple, classic menu, and make their bagels traditionally. This method of kettle-boiling produces their classic, dense chewy bagels with a crispy, crunchy exterior.
The claim, and we agree, to be “as close to a NY-style bagel as you can get outside of the 5 boroughs.”
East Atlanta Village is the perfect spot for the mouthwatering bagel shop. With a cool vibe and arts to spare, the New York style bagel shop fits in perfectly.
If you’re looking for a delicious bagel to start your day off right, Emerald City is more than just a gem, it’s an emerald.
