Everyone knows one of the hardest parts of living in the ATL is the daily work commute and traffic. For a city that spends most of its time sitting on the highway in bumper to bumper traffic, we’ve got good news and bad news.
A New Paving Project
According to 11 Alive News, beginning last Monday night, Georgia construction crews took “a major step in the project to overhaul the interchange of Georgia 400 and I-285…” The new project will be a great thing in the long run, with a smoother, newly paved road. But in the process of the paving will, of course, lead to increased traffic delays.
11 Alive reports that on Monday, crews began, “paving the shoulder along a five-mile stretch of I-285. That work will lead to weekend work that will close multiple lanes as crews begin paving the travel lanes.”

Georgia Department of Transportation’s Natalie Dale told 11 Alive News, “Everything is disruptive on the top end, a fender bender is disruptive on the top end. When you’re closing multiple lanes for milling and paving, you’re talking about extreme disruption… We don’t take it lightly that we’re disrupting people’s weekends, but working with the hospitals and the business community, we know how much goes on during the week, and we want to work during those less congested hours.”
So get ready for more congestion and traffic during the night and on the weekends on I-285. Work on I-285 will take place from late Friday night and conclude each week early Monday morning.
After pavement on 285 is complete, road crews will begin work on 400.
Hang in there, Atlanta! It’ll all be worth it when we have nicer roads to drive on!
