So what’s going on?
The United States government announced recently that all domestic travelers in the U.S. will need a REAL ID by May 7th, 2025.
What is a REAL ID?
If you’ve lived in Georgia for a minute now, you’ve probably heard of the REAL ID. And if you have… you probably have one! According to dhs.gov, the REAL ID Act was passed in 2005, and, “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses.”
And after several years, REAL IDs are finally being required to board domestic aircrafts.
How do I get a REAL ID in Georgia?
Good news! You probably have a REAL ID if you have a Georgia driver’s license.
According to the Georgia Department of Driver Services, “All permanent licenses issued in Georgia after 2012 are REAL ID Compliant. To verify you have a Real ID document, check the upper right-hand corner of your License/ID for either a: [Black Star or a Gold Star].”
