Ellijay, GA

Ranking at number 17 on the list, Ellijay has a ton to offer in the way of a weekend getaway or escape from the ciy. LoveExploring says,
Nicknamed the ‘Apple Capital of Georgia’, Ellijay can be found at the southern end of the Appalachian Trail. Quintessentially charming, the city draws visitors with its hiking trails, lakes, and the tranquil Cartecay River which winds through it from the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Their famous Apple Festival might take place in the fall, but they’ve got tons to do all season long. This small town is perfect for a peaceful trip to the mountains, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. And at just an hour and a half drive, it’s an easy day or weekend trip!
Helen, GA

If you’ve lived in Atlanta for any amount of time at all, you know Helen–Georgia’s favorite little Alpine mountain town. LoveExploring says,
Another charming Bavarian-style town, Helen sits within the Southern Appalachian Mountains in northeast Georgia. Over 200 specialist and import shops are dotted along the cobblestone streets, offering everything from candles and quilts to pottery and peanuts.
Of course, Helen is known for its German-style celebrations, like their iconic Christmas festival, their Oktoberfest celebrations and more! And during the summer, you can enjoy tubing in Helen–which is like no other!
Helen is also just a short 1.5 hour drive from the ATL, making it perfect for a little escape from reality!
