No matter the reason, all of us should be cutting down on our meat consumption! That transition can be super tricky with all the delicious foods of the South on offer across Georgia. Luckily, Atlanta’s plant based scene has seen a dramatic change in scenery over recent years, and it’s never been a more perfect time to be vegan in the ATL.
The city has it all, from mouth-watering burgers and nostalgic soul food to yummy gyozas and healthier food options, and we’re going to break down some of our favorite vegan restaurants in the city.
1. Slutty Vegan
Food truck to burger bar to now, national restaurant chain, there’s no doubt we had to kick off our list with Slutty Vegan. The plant based burger joint has become a beloved part of Atlanta’s cuisine scene. It’ll have even the most cavernous meat-eater questioning their choices with the impressive menu. We recommend the SloppyToppy, loaded with jalapeños, vegan cheese, caramelized onions, and their special Slut sauce.

2. Bar Vegan
It’s back to the brilliant mind behind Slutty Vegan. Pinky Cole recently expanded her empire to Ponce City Market. She made a strange collaboration choice but the results are unbelievable. Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks and Slutty Vegan have teamed up for Pinky’s new venture. It not only serves up vegan cheesesteaks, but it features immersive ‘bar theatre’.

3. Cafe Sunflower
Cafe Sunflower is an incredible option for plant-based brunch lovers. For over 25 years, they have vowed to provide vegans a lot more options than the usual few salads you encounter in most restaurants’ menus. They serve a varied range of cuisines, including vegan takes on Southwestern American staples. We can never decide between the Vegan Chicken & Waffles, or the Loaded Breakfast Burrito!

4. Soul Vegetarian
With two locations across Atlanta, this popular vegetarian paradise is one of the OG veggie spots in the city. Since 1979, they have only used fresh ingredients for their delicious dishes. The restaurant chain operates under the auspices of the Hebrew Israelite Community of Jerusalem. Their Divine Vegan Feasts will give you a taste of the entire menu in one sitting! Or try the finger-licking Cheesesteak Special every Tuesday if you’re a fan of sandwiches.

5. Herban Fix
For more pan-Asian fusion deliciousness, head to Herban Fix. The restaurant’s mission is to create a healthy-eating movement, without skipping out on flavor. With primarily Southeast Asian flavors, the restaurant has captured its customers’ hearts with well-plated dishes and updated traditional flavors into delectable vegan food.
If you’re looking for a hearty meal, try the seared pom pom mushroom steak with pan-seared mushroom and drizzled with a savory sauce atop a bed of sauteed bak choi and red peppers for extra crunch. For those colder days, we recommend the spicy tofu soup! This steaming bowl is fragrant with mushrooms and spices, using only the freshest ingredients.

8. Plant Based Pizzeria
Staying away from pizza can be difficult when maintaining a vegan diet. Fortunately, Atlanta has that problem solved with Plant Based Pizzeria. You’ve got to try the Spinach and Artichoke, with roasted basil pizza sauce or the sweet and savory Georgia Peach Pizza. This innovative pie is loaded with roasted peach, mushrooms, red peppers, vegan sausage, vegan cheese and more!

9. Lov’n It Live
Located in the heart of the downtown business district of East Point, Lov’n It Live follows the motto that food is medicine, and rightly so. This laid-back East Point gem has a charming and tranquil environment, with equal parts tasty and comforting raw/vegan dishes! The jazzy soundtrack compliments the welcoming service. We suggest trying out their Zucchini Lasagna for a real plant based treat and the Raw Strawberry Cheesecake for a fresh and sweet end to your meal.

10. Planted Soul
To the naked eye, burgers from Planted Soul don’t look vegan, but they 100% are. Known by their fans for their plant-based shrimp, we recommend “surfing and turfing” it, with their Beyond Soul Burger and Fries. Add a vegan shrimp for 3$ more. Or, try the Good 4 the Soul bowl, a flavor bomb prepared with Southern fried vegan chicken wings, vegan baked mac ‘n’ cheese, collard greens and candied yams. You won’t regret it!
