Whether you’re looking for the perfect spring break trip with your friends or a weekend getaway with loved ones–there’s nothing quite like a little mini getaway to take your mind off the hustle and bustle of everything!
We made a guide of some towns and spots you could check out, for your every mood! Mountains and ocean… there’s something for everyone in Georgia!
1. Helen, Georgia
Distance from Atlanta: 1.5 hours
This cute little Alpine town is absolutely perfect for a getaway this spring. They’ve got all the charm of a small German town, right here in the area! Explore tons of fun hikes and beautiful nature, as well as river-front access. There are also tons of cute artisan shops, a chocolate factory, and a bunch of delicious restaurants.
Our recommendation: While you’re there, take a hike through the beautiful Smithgall Woods State Park to see the beautiful wildlife and rushing waterfall! Then head into town for shopping up and down Main Street. Grab dinner at The Troll Tavern on the river, and a sweet treat at Hansel & Gretel Candy Kitchen!

Distance from Atlanta: 1.5 hours
As the ‘Heart of Georgia Wine Country’ Dahlonega is perfect for wine and nature lovers alike! Dahlonega is also one of the first ‘Gold Rush’ sites in the U.S., and they lean into their golden past! There’s also a poppin’ arts scene and tons of U-Pick farming opportunities!
Our recommendation: While you’re there, head to the Dahlonega Butterfly Farm to be surrounded by hundreds of fluttering wings! Then go kayaking on the beautiful waters of the Chattahoochee river. Finish off your day with a romantic dinner and some world-class wine at Montaluce Winery & Restaurant!
3. Savannah, Georgia
Distance from Atlanta: 4 hours
If you’re looking to party at the beach or wander under beautiful Spanish moss, Savannah is the perfect artsy city to do it! With gorgeous beaches, interesting history, and incredible restaurants, you really can’t go wrong with a trip to Savannah. Of course, Savannah is a bit far from Atlanta, so a week trip might be a better fit than a weekend away!
Our recommendation: Of course we recommend hitting the beach at Tybee Island. If you’re looking for more outdoorsy things to do, kayak up one of the picturesque rivers (we recommend the Savannah River), or take a Riverboat to let someone else do the navigating! While you’re there we recommend getting brunch at Little Duck Diner! And with all the history Savannah has? You’ve got to check out one of their world-famous ghost tours!
4. Jekyll Island, Georgia
Distance from Atlanta: 5 hours
Another trip that’s a pretty good distance from Atlanta, Jekyll Island is home to one of the ‘best beaches in the United States‘! Jekyll is also an extremely artsy spot with tons of cute shops!
Our recommendation: You definitely don’t want to miss out on the beautiful beach covered in driftwood! After you’re done beaching it up, visit the Sea Turtle Center to learn about the conservation of the sea turtles (and get to see some cute little turtles up close)! Once you’re done with your outdoor activities, check out the Jekyll Market and grab dinner and drinks at Eighty Ocean Kitchen and Bar!
5. Columbus, Georgia
Distance from Atlanta: 2 hours
If you’re looking for a quaint little getaway, Columbus is full of surprises! Situated on the beautiful Chattahoochee, this spot is perfect for a day or weekend away!
Our recommendation: If you’re in Columbus, you can’t miss out on the Smithsonian recognized ‘largest collection of vintage lunchboxes‘ in the world. After touring that and the six other museums attached to an adorably unassuming antique store, you’ll have to head to the Chattahoochee riverwalk for a nice breezy walk by the water. And the best spot to grab coffee while you’re there? Iron Bank Coffee Co.!
